Founded in 1911, Tsinghua University is located in Qing Hua Yuan, a former royal garden in northwest Beijing. It was selected as one of the world's most beautiful college campuses by Forbes Magazine in 2010.

As one of the most prestigious institutions in China for nurturing talented students and promoting advanced scientific research, Tsinghua has been recognized as one of the top universities in the world. It is ranked 26th in Times High Education World Reputation Rankings 2015 and 25th in QS World University Rankings 2015/16.

Tsinghua University has established an integrated platform of teaching and research in the subjects of sciences, engineering, literatures, arts, history, philosophy, economics, management, law, education, and medicine. It holds the most advantageous subjects in science and technology among the universities in China, and also possesses a series of featured subjects in the fields of arts, humanities and social sciences.

Tsinghua is the first university in New China to host international students. In December 1950, fourteen students from Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary were enrolled into Tsinghua, followed by nineteen students from Poland, Czech Slovakia and Hungary in 1951. Over the past six decades, more than 30,000 international students from around the world have been enrolled at Tsinghua University.

In October 2015, there are 3,380 international students from 119 countries studying at Tsinghua University. These include 1373 undergraduate, 967 Master’s, 321 doctoral, 507 visiting/exchange, and 212 Chinese language program students.
